Kebahagiaan bukanlah sesuatu yang didapat, melainkan sebuah keadaan pikiran.” — Margaret Lee Runbeck.

The first post on Medium and I’m writing this not in a happy state but in a state of wanting to be happy. The only thing that came to my mind when I started writing this was “How do I get into a happy mood for now”.

Happiness must be different for each person, upss sorry… the truth is that happiness feels like 1 (yes the feeling of happiness :D) but comes from various ways. We must have thought: “If I get A, I’ll be really happy” or “If only I get B, I’ll be happy instead of sad like this”. There are many ifs and buts that make our minds drift towards happiness. 😶‍🌫️😶‍🌫️

But have you ever been happy with just the little things you get, then suddenly become sad just because we see people out there getting much higher or better than what we get? Then… our happy mood is gone again instantly *B00M* 👀 (*if I’ve definitely been hahah)

How to be happy is stable? Well, there seems to be no way to keep the feeling of happiness in our minds or hearts because sometimes it must be covered by other feelings, such as sadness, disappointment, anxiety, fear and so on. All those feelings we have to go through and feel (*even though the only feeling we really want is the feeling of HAPPINESS).

Hmm… let’s discuss the title of this article: “Sufficient Happiness”. The word ‘Sufficient/Enough’ is such a satisfying word, isn’t it? As if telling us that ‘we’ve got it and don’t need more’. It can also be said that Happy Enough involves accepting what has been achieved and appreciating what we have right now.

X : So, if we appreciate what we have now and always have enough happiness, we will not have the motivation to pursue something we want…. (?)

Yes, there is nothing wrong with X’s statement above, but being Happy Enough is not about resigning ourselves to circumstances or allowing ourselves to feel satisfied with our minimal achievements but about how we can find a balance between ambition and satisfaction. What’s an example? An example is when we understand that happiness does not always lie in material achievements or big things, but it can be small things such as human relationships or simple experiences, here’s a case in point:

A : I just had a final job interview this afternoon but was rejected in the afternoon heheh …

B : Wow, there must be many other opportunities, how was the interview?

A : There were a lot of questions from the user that I didn’t understand, but in the middle of the interview, the interviewer taught me something that I didn’t know before, so maybe for the next interview I can improve it…

Now, from A, we can see that there are 2 different feelings,
1. The sad feeling of being rejected
2. Feeling excited for the next opportunity.

The feeling of excitement is not a completely happy feeling, but it’s really nice to see something good in an event, right? ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (*give A 5 stars)

Was ‘A’ sad that she didn’t get the job? Of course…

But it’s a feeling that must be passed and actually the feelings we feel are our choice …

It’s okay to feel sad, disappointed, upset and so on, one of the human tasks includes feeling all the feelings in the world. But just remember the control is in our mind, you can feel happy from small things, even just by looking at the blue sky, eating your favorite ice cream, drinking coffee or playing with your pet 🥳.
